Seth W. Whitaker was born in 1950. One of nine children, he grew up on a farm in the Connecticut River valley and received his secondary education at Suffield Academy, a well known New England preparatory school, and in England as an English-Speaking Union International Schoolboy Fellow. He received his Bachelor's Degree from Duke University in 1973. After working in the claims department for the Kemper Insurance Companies for more than two years, he attended law school at Golden Gate University and Hastings College of the Law, graduating from Hastings in 1978. He was admitted to the California bar that same year and joined Booth, Mitchel, Strange and Smith in 1979 where he was elevated to partner in 1984. He has served on the firms Executive Committee and as the Head of its California Bar Association certified Continuing Legal Education program.
Mr. Whitaker maintains a broad based civil litigation and appellate practice with an emphasis on tort and contract cases in areas of real-estate, insurance, construction, personal injury, property damage, employment, environment, and defamation and privacy. His practice typically involves high exposure complex multi-party cases He also consults on transactional matters involving commercial contract drafting and commercial real-estate purchase and sale. In addition to his membership in the California Bar, he is admitted to all Federal District Courts in California. He is a member of the American Bar Association, The Los Angeles Bar Association and the Defense Research Institute.
